Pensionado (Retirement) Program & Residency
- With the current global economic crisis, Panama has become a preferred destination for foreign retirees. Many of our clients take advantage of Panama’s endless opportunities and increase their quality of life, while decreasing their cost of living by relocating to Panama.
- Panama offers foreign citizens the opportunity to apply for Panama’s Pensionado Program. There is no age requirement and applicants can include their dependents. Applicants must prove that they receive at least $1,000 per month in a retirement/pension income.
- Requirements include, but are not limited to the following:
- Letter from a private corporation or government agency (i.e. Social Security) verifying amount applicant receives in retirement/pension per month
- Copy of birth certificate and passport
- Police record from county/district applicant resides
- Marriage certificate (if applicable)
- Two (2) visits to Panama’s Immigration office. First visit is to register applicant’s passport; while the second visit is have the applicant’s picture taken for Residency ID card once application is approved.

**Note: All Pensionado Visa applications must be submitted on behalf of a Panamanian attorney and all foreign documents must be Apostilled. **
Pensionado Program Incentives
- Some of the incentives included in the Pensionado Program are the following:
- Panamanian Resident Visa
- Tax exemption to import a new car every two years
- Introduction of personal belongings tax free into Panama (up to $10,000)
- 25% discounts on utility bills
- 25% discount on airline tickets
- 30% discount on bus, boat and train fares
- 20% discount on doctor’s bills and 15% on hospital services if no insurance applies
- 15% off on dental and eye exams
- 10% discount on medicines
